In battery manufacturing, where drying is one of the most resource-intensive steps, COMAS leverages its long-lasting expertise from other industries to address this challenge with a dedicated heat recovery system. As part of CoatPrime, COMAS’ complete solution for coating and drying, this optional technology has been engineered to capture and reuse thermal output from the exhaust air, improving efficiency across the entire process.

Recovering heat where it matters most

In coating dryers, large volumes of high-temperature air — typically between 100 and 200°C — are continuously exhausted from the system. Rather than being dissipated, this valuable thermal energy is recovered and reintroduced into the process, reducing overall consumption and minimizing waste. At the core of this approach is a dedicated air-to-water heat exchange solution designed to enable effective heat recovery. A closed-loop water circuit collects energy from the exhaust air and transfers it to a water-to-air heat exchanger, preheating the incoming airflow. As a result, air can be reintroduced into the dryer at approximately 70–80°C, significantly lowering the power required to reach target operating parameters, while maintaining optimal thermal stability.

By recovering and reusing part of the heat generated during production, the system delivers measurable efficiency gains, reducing consumption by up to 30% compared to standard configuration. Stable process conditions are guaranteed by the original dryer design and maintained throughout the cycle, ensuring consistent coating quality and reliable performance over time. Fully integrated into the drying line, the solution combines dedicated piping for hot air extraction, high-efficiency heat exchangers and a recirculating water circuit, enabling seamless operation without disrupting existing layouts.
